in bed with Tom Clancy

i have never read a book by Tom Clancy but lately i have listened to two on tape / in The Bear and The Dragon a damning sequence on China' population control methods / China, of course, not only enjoys favored nation status but holds most of our federal debt

i believe Tom Clancy is one of the Many who imagined terrorists high jacking planes to use as weapons of destruction / yes, one of the Many / unlike our National Security Advisor who could imagine no such thing / and whose idea of Diplomacy is to appear only in front of screened audiences with screened questions and from what i can tell was unable to imagine what her job as Nationa Security Advisor was either

okay enough seething / back to the important stuff at hand / like how nice it is to have my coffee in bed during cold weather here / when Moab heats up it will be off to the rocks before the sun grabs the sky

at Happy Trail my bed was in different places depending on the season / in winter along the window wall of the upstairs room that looked out over the creek, enveloped by live oaks and sycamores / or on the deck just outside that room for the warm weather months (most of the year there in southern california) / sometimes i put my bed, a pretty antique brass bed, in the kitchen, the warmest room of the house when it got very cold in Topanga

later a little room was added to the house / the Butterfly Room had its own entrance and a little porch where it was possible to string up a Navajo Loom from the roof supports / the room itself was narrow but tall with a "vaulted" ceiling / that means you could see the peaked roof supports abd there was a skylight

one day hiking in the hills i found a maple head and foot board someone had trashed / it was in perfect condition / i brought them home and asked a carpenter/friend to make a bed frame for it and i would put it in the Butterfly Room

we were all high on something in those days so when he checked with me about length measurements i agreed to some numbers that turned out to be Eight Feet Long / by then my "mattress" consisted of Five feather beds piled one on another / with a fluffy duvet and a down sheet on top of that my bed looked like a giant marshmallow / smile

when all fluffed up sinking into those feathers was just like well, sinking / friends would ask if they cd try it out

all that shaking and fluffing up of the feather beds was a considerable amount of upper arm exercise and had to be done every day to get the maximum sinking effect / i do like my life style to provide me with exercises

so the feather beds fit into the box-like bed frame with two extra feet left at the bottom / this turned out to be perfect / the Butterfly Room was just big enough for the bed and a night stand / the extra two feet provided space for extra blankets, pillow, and a clothes dump

pondering the miscue on the measurements i realized that since my most recent lovers had been six foot eight that the carpenter/friend just assumed i would want a bed long enough to accomodate my taste in men

heh
