Tomato Season 2005 gets underway

baby lettuces peeking
bulbs poking up 2-3-4 inches of green
parsleys and arugula staging strong comebacks

loll in the hammock to decide crucial events like the timing of the tomato seedlings delivery / i will order seedlings again this year instead of starting from seed / except trying out the seeds kaki collected and dried from last year / like the golden strawberry tomatoes and the persimmon tomatoes

tomato season extends well past sun-dried tomatoes !

enormous cherry tomato plants were "gophered" when i grew tomatoes in Topanga / i hung the cut off plants by the roots on the side of the bunkhouse and there they dried in place / well, sure, that's how that is done

more fun and innovative than drying tomatoes is canning them / roasting them with garlic and/or herbs / and "putting them by" / the persimmon tomatoes have crystallized ginger cubes thrust into the jar before sealing

tomato season continues until all the canned tomatoes are used up ! the ginger cubes in the pesimmon tomatoes do not dissolve during the canning process so when opened up in January a nice morsel of delight

tomato season 2004 is still an ongoing enchantment / a couple of spoonfuls of tomato jam with its whole cloves of garlic go into the new beef broth / squirt of lemon / dash of cayenne / zero points on weight watchers
